Yoga At Nursery School

YogaTrinity_122315APreschool students at the Roslyn Trinity Cooperative Day School are fortunate to have learning opportunities that are not only fun but are developmentally appropriate and focus on essential social, cognitive and self-regulation skills. As part of its state-of-the-art program, the co-op provides an annual four-week yoga class.
Yoga for children playfully introduces yoga poses and breathing and relaxation techniques. “Yoga offers so many benefits to kids,” said Ayme Lilly, a clinical psychologist and parent of a co-op student. “Yoga techniques have been shown to help with attention and concentration, self-control, relaxation and dealing with stress, besides its obvious physical benefits.” Lindi Nubel, Roslyn Trinity Co-op director, has seen the benefit of the yoga program to her students for many years. “Parents have told us that the children demonstrate the yoga program at home and engage their families,” Nubel said. “It really has an impact on the children, and the teachers continue it in class throughout the year.”
This year’s co-op yoga class is being taught by Dena Vigilis of Little Lotus Yoga in Port Washington. Vigilis is a certified children’s yoga teacher and is the founder of Little Lotus Yoga.
The Roslyn Trinity Co-op provides a warm and nurturing preschool experience for children ages 2 to 5 and is currently enrolling for the 2016-17 school year. For more information, contact Director Lindi Nubel at 516-621-3380 or go to www.roslyntrinityco-op.org.
