Jumping To Cure Diabetes

jumpMunsey Park Elementary School students took a giant leap forward in the battle against Type 1 diabetes at the seventh annual Jump to Cure Diabetes sponsored by the school’s physical education teachers and the SCA.

The event featured Munsey Park’s exuberant students jumping rope to raise money for the Long Island Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The event was a huge success and a great day was had by all. Principal Dr. Jean Kendall and many teachers participated in the round robin jump which lasted the entire school day.

Thanks to the generosity of Munsey Park families, nearly $8,500 was raised in honor of several current and former Munsey Park students and a beloved teacher who live daily with the challenges of Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the body no longer produces insulin, a necessary hormone. Those living with diabetes must monitor their blood sugar by multiple finger-sticks each day and insulin must be administered through multiple daily injections or an insulin pump.
