PresidentialHopeful_041316AManhasset’s Maura Lewis recently met John Kasich, who is running for the Republican ticket in the upcoming primaries.

Listening to him speak, Lewis said, “he is a voice of reason in this crazy election year. He is humble, has old school work ethics and values and thinks before he speaks.”

Kasich is the governor of Ohio. He was reelected last year by a 30-point margin, after working with the state to turn an $8 billion shortfall into a $2 billion surplus, cutting taxes by $5 billion and improving employment, according to his campaign website.

As chair of the Budget Committee in Congress, Kasich works to balance the federal budget, while he also served 18 years on the House Armed Services Committee.

Kasich was born in McKees Rocks, PA, a small blue-collar town outside Pittsburgh.

His father was a postman and delivered mail for 30 years. Kasich is married to his wife, Karen, and they have twin teenage daughters.
