Gallery of Fine Art at Manhasset Secondary School Unveils its Artistic MissionArtauction_101714A
The mission of the Gallery of Fine Art at Manhasset Secondary School will be to educate, enrich and engage students, faculty, staff and the community through art exhibitions by local, regional, national and historically significant artists.
The Gallery will present exhibitions and related activities such as lectures, workshops, demonstrations and other educational programs representing a wide range of media and themes.
The criteria for selecting exhibitions will include artistic excellence, a variety of aesthetic forms and educational potential.
The Gallery will fulfill this mission by installing student curated exhibits on a rotating basis throughout the academic year.
The final goal imagined by the founders is that the Gallery will evolve into an inspiring cultural center for all to experience and enjoy.
The art faculty is currently putting the finishing touches on the Gallery’s first exhibit entitled “A Continuum of Art Making.”
Featured in this exhibit will be works by Manhasset students in grades K-12. Each work has been carefully selected as an age appropriate representation of the creative and developmental process as envisioned in the visual arts program at Manhasset Public Schools. The exhibit will culminate in a display of paintings in the Gallery by professional artist and Manhasset graduate James Viscardi (jamesviscardi.com). The presentation of Mr. Viscardi’s work within the context of the overall exhibit completes the cycle of authenticity, representing the educational philosophy of “Real Learning, Real Work.”
The Gallery is made possible in part through generous donations by the Manhasset School Community Association, The Tower HS Yearbook Club, The Classes of 1961, 1962 and 2012, and Mr. Robert Anastasia. All interested community members are welcome to attend the opening on September 25 at 7:30 pm in the Secondary School Lobby.
