Sept11_090514AManhasset residents, friends and visitors looking for a meaningful way to commemorate the Sept. 11 anniversary are invited to attend the Manhasset 9/11 Candlelight Memorial Service at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, in Mary Jane Davies Park on Plandome Road. Bring a candle and join fellow members of the Manhasset community for a service of remembrance and hope. This service is sponsored by the Manhasset Clergy Association. This year marks the 14th anniversary of what is now known as Patriots Day.
The first service was held on Sept. 15, 2001, following the tragedies on Sept. 11 that year. Since that first gathering in 2001, the Manhasset Clergy Association has sponsored a Manhasset 9/11 Candlelight Memorial Service every Sept. 11 to remember those who died that tragic day and to pray for peace. In keeping with the central focus of that first service and every 9/11 service since, attendees will be invited to the microphone to speak the names of loved ones who perished on Sept. 11, 2001.
For further information, contact Reverend Jimmy Only at The Congregational Church UCC, 516-627-4911. In case of rain, the service will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church on Northern Blvd.
