Starting School B4 Labor Day

iManhasset’s proposed calendar for 2015-16 also reflects students starting their first day of classes before Labor Day on Tuesday September 1.  One week before Labor Day. The holiday occurs this year on Sept. 7 and school concludes on June 24 which is somewhat earlier than previous years. A significant number of school districts in Nassau County are proposing school calendars that have students beginning classes prior to Labor Day.

This reasoning by the school district is there is an opportunity to schedule a week long Spring break from Monday April 25-Friday April 29 (Passover begins at sunset on Friday April 22) in addition to an extended Easter weekend beginning on Thursday March 24- Monday March 28. The week long Spring break would not be possible if the school calendar had classes beginning on the traditional start date the Tuesday after Labor Day.
Don’t like it? Come to the BOE meeting on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. at the Board Room at Manhasset High School before they vote on it.
