Celebrating nearly a century of good work, Ida Markezin celebrated her 99th birthday on Jan. 12. She has lived in the Incorporated Village of Plandome Heights for more than 50 years. Her children attended Manhasset public schools and during that time volunteered in many school activities. She was a founding member of the Hellenic Women’s Club of North Shore, a board member for many years and a past president. She has been active in philanthropic endeavors throughout the years for the club and the Cathedral of St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church in Hempstead. At present, she resides in Port Washington.
Two days before her birthday, the Needlecraft Group of the Hellenic Women’s Club of North Shore went to her apartment to help her celebrate this milestone in her life. She has been an integral part of the Needlecraft Group from its inception 40 years ago, having accomplished so many beautiful needlepoint, knitted and crocheted items. She has been an inspiration to the group. Everyone was happy to be there, especially Markezin, who shows love and good will toward everyone around her. Throughout her life, she has influenced and helped so many people. She did this in a quiet, soft manner. She is a very special and unique woman who is loved by so many. Her outstanding and positive outlook on life, her love and consideration for people have influenced many and endeared her to all who know her.
The group and all Markezin’s friends wish her well and look forward to helping her celebrate her 100th birthday.
